No Sleep Tonight!

I hope you really enjoyed the previous entry. My objective was to make you feel a portion of what I felt during the ceremony. Still, I’m sure that many of you really just want to know what happened. Well the entire week was so dynamic. My expectations were surpassed and I had an amazing time. It seemed as though the anticipation of my arrival was itching only me, but when my friends picked me up from the airport I realized they were anxious to see me too! With Johnny driving, the ride to the Bat Cave was interesting and nearly fatal at the same time. Nevertheless we made it safely to our destination. After introducing myself to new friends, re-introducing myself to friends I hadn’t spoken to in some time and catching up with old ones, we sat to plan out the rest of the evening. That plan included dinner with my sands, old friends and new sorors. It was great! The food was amazing (love the mac-and-cheese sands) and I realized how much I missed each of my sands. After being spread all over the world and different arenas of life, we came back together as if we had never been apart. Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ set it off as Adena and I reminded the men that, “If you like it, then you should have put a ring on it!” The night was full of good conversation, good food, good drinks and great people. What a grand way to start the Inaugural week.

The next morning all we did was go to the store and Ihop, but if you have ever spent any amount of time with my friends and I, you know it was not just a trip to the store and Ihop. The adventure ranged from “Semi-Pro” football stars, to big bears, to lost wallets, to vendors with attitudes. By the end of the morning we were well fed, full of laughter and funny stories to share, had made millionaires of Barack vendors and were carrying ‘Barack-phernalia’ up to our ears. I have never had so much fun in Target in all my life.

The festivities didn’t end there as the ladies got all dolled up for the house party with the Bruhz. If you think the drive to the house wasn’t eventful, then think again. Thank you, Ash, for showing us what shear fear for you life feels like. Hindsight is 20/20 and we were in good hands so of course we (and the car) made it to our destination without a scratch. Between great conversation with future doctors and neurosurgeons, dancing to old and new hits and running into a friendly west coast bruh the night was only the beginning. Cory’s gift of gab secured some very special donations while the DJ kept the people dancing amongst the transactions. Conversation pieces ranged from Greek stereotypes to politics to female intuition.

I also ran into Slow Motion Q (one of the sweetest bruhz), who took care of my sands when she was in Denver. I did not leave the party before serenading him with Jamie Foxx’s “Heaven” as well as an original piece of my own. The night was not over before giving a kiss to the man that would be my President in less than 24 hours, taking pictures with the bruhz and thanking them for their hospitality.
Prior to leaving the Bat Cave I remember being asked what time we would come home –considering that we would have to leave early for the inauguration in the morning. I assured the questioner that she should prepare to come home from the party and change into the clothes she intended to wear to the swearing in ceremony. The night proved me wrong. We actually had about 45 minutes to rest before we had to shower and change into the clothes we intended to wear to the ceremony. I was off by about 45 minutes.

So far we have experienced non-stop excitement and are on our way to start the most anticipated morning to date with only 45 minutes of sleep.
