Guilty Pleasure

Have you ever done something you knew was wrong, but, between the excitement of doing something bad and the pleasure you get from doing it, you do it anyway? I know you have and if you haven’t, then check your pulse. Well I have a guilty pleasure too.

I know it’s wrong and every time I’m doing it I get my few minutes of pleasure and feel bad after. Still the pleasure is so good that I can’t help but to keep doing it. I even tell myself, “I’m not going to do this anymore”, but when I get in the moment and it starts I can’t resist. It’s like my mind completely succumbs to the feeling this pleasure gives me. Let anyone ask me about it and I would starkly denounce the act or give an intellectual reason as to why people should not engage in such an act all the while knowing that I may get a “fix” later that night. I think the taboo nature of the act is what makes it so exciting. By now you probably already know what I’m talking about. I’m talking abut listening to stupid songs.

Yes! My guilty pleasure is senseless music that, in my room, makes me get up and dance. I would never publicly support the music so I download the song as my silent vow to never support buffoonery. I’m even embarrassed to play the songs out loud so I roll up my windows when I drive or quickly turn the song when my friends are in the car. They pacify my excuse, “Man I downloaded my brother’s music and look what I got” Because they know the deal. Ask me about Soulja Boy and I’ll roll my eyes as I recall his STUPID “Slave Master Shot Out”, but only a few people know I have “Soulja Girl” on my iTunes in steady rotation. I’m so ashamed.

Today I was listening to Trey Songz record with Soulja Boy, “LOL :-)”. (Yes, that is the way it is spelled.) It is a song that talks about the social mediums that people now use as foreplay and how his female love interest responds to his sexual advances with “L-O-L smiley face”. The thing is that I love that song! I know it’s not a Maxwell “Pretty Wings” and it doesn’t hold a candle to Chrisette Michele’s “Golden”, but when I’m in the mood to loose my mind I find the “Toot It and Boot It” record on the radio, check my surroundings and twirk!

Lord knows I wouldn’t be caught in public dancing like this, but in my room I can pretend to be the hoochie at the club that gets all the attention when she pops, locks and drops it. The thing is that I’m not the only woman who does it. I know classy and sophisticated women who will admit that they do the same and justify it by saying to themselves, “This is what I would do for my man in private. It’s like practicing.” No girl! It’s your guilty pleasure!
